With the economy facing tougher times ahead, many of us are trying to reduce your budget and spending. A good way of doing so is through a lower electricity bill, which can be achieved by transforming your home into an energy efficient one. Doing so not only helps to conserve out environment’s resource but also let us be more self reliant in terms of our energy consumption. If this is something you want to try out with your home but have very little ideas on how to go about doing that, here a few simple tips that you can use to get you on your way.

The first thing you should consider is to replace your current lights with solar powered options as much as possible. Most of the people have the misconception that solar lights are only for outdoor areas as they need to face the sun. However, with indoor solar lighting, it is now possible to have solar powered lights within your home. These type of lighting have two kinds of power sources. One is of course solar based while the other is your typical electrical power based. When there is insufficient solar energy, the electric power will kick as the alternative power source. In this way, you can be assured that you will have sufficient lighting in your home even when it is a cloudy or rainy day.

Another way to be more energy efficient is to use cellular shades. This kind of window covering has the most powerful insulation among all the different models. By using them to cover your windows, the temperature of your home will be better moderated such that it will remain cool during summer and warm during winter. Hence, by installing these cellular shades, you can easily reduce your usage of your air conditioning and heater, and bring down your energy consumption by quite a bit.

Make your outdoor area look more fabulous with the addition of an attractive and stunning patio string light. These lighting fixtures will not only help to illuminate your patio but they can also help to boost its aesthetic appeal. Having beautiful string lights tied around the post or hanged on the branch of a tree will surely help to create a mesmerizing and captivating outdoor environment.

So, when you decide to buy such kind of outdoor lighting, it is important that you know how to select the right one. That said, the first thing you have to do is to plan out how you want to improve the look of your patio. Doing so enables you to effectively determine the amount of light that you need and the effect that you want to achieve. It would really help you to make the right decision if you first establish the main purpose of adding the patio lights. Will they be used to solely to illuminate the area, or they will be utilized as decorative garden accents? Keep in mind that the primary reason of purchasing these lights will play a vital role on the selection process.

When you are certain on your exact needs, next thing to do is to acquire the proper measurement of the area where the lights will be installed. These measurements are necessary to help you ascertain how many outdoor string lighting you exactly need. The good thing about string lights is that they can be connected to one another. This makes covering bigger spaces a lot easier.

After you have covered these aspects, you should determine the style and color of string lights that you want. You can go for basic yellow and white light bulbs to get that classic look, or you can go for multi-colored string lights if you want to add a festive and more cheerful touch to your outdoor space.

These outdoor lighting fixtures can now be easily availed in many online and offline shops, particularly in hardware or improvement stores. That said, buying one can be done with ease as long as you are certain on what you are looking for. Since they are sold in varying price ranges, taking time to shop around will considerably help you to find the best deals.

One of the ways that you can have a part in saving our environment as you save money on your energy bills is to consider replacing some of your ordinary light bulbs with GU10 LED lights. These amazing bulbs supply more light per watt than incandescent bulbs, but they use only about 5% as much power. These lights last from 40,000 to 70,000 hours and do not produce much heat. The bulbs have no mercury in them like fluorescent bulbs, so they are environmentally friendly in that aspect as well.

LED GU10 lights work well for recessed lighting, track lighting, accent lighting and security lighting. Because they will not produce extra heat or use very much power, you can leave them on around the clock without the concerns of traditional bulbs. You can also safely use them to light valuable artwork, because they do not emit UV. However, they cannot be used with a standard dimmer switch, so figure that the light output you choose for the bulbs will remain constant. Since these bulbs last for many years, they are ideal for use in places that are hard to reach for bulb replacement.

Wherever you switch to LED GU10 bulbs, you will reap a substantial savings for energy use, and the bulbs will give years of trouble free lighting. These bulbs are great for enhancing your landscaping and lighting your entryways or any place where they will remain on for hours, because they consume very little energy.

Your home can be a safer place when you have plenty of lighting to discourage prowlers and to light pathways for your family and guests. In the long run, the cost of additional lighting will not be an issue when you use economical LED GU10 bulbs to provide that extra light. They will prove to be a valuable asset while adding an attractive decorative touch to your property.

Interior designing sometimes equate to the use of modern chandelier. Although you might be eager to adapt such kind of lighting fixture, you should still take the time to properly choose the right type for your needs. Below are some steps to guide you in such a task.

Assess where you want to place the chandelier. The exact spot where you would like to install the chandelier is absolutely an integral part of the decision process. Chandeliers are not only used in hallways alone. In fact they can be hanged on the wall or they can also sit on top of tables (depending on the type that you have purchased). Therefore, establish first where you really want to place the chandelier.

Set a reasonable shopping budget. This might not be too much of a consideration because chandeliers nowadays come in varying price ranges. However, it is still vital that you allocate a budget to ensure that you won’t overspend. It is very impractical to go for expensive chandeliers when you know you can’t really afford it.

Decide on the type, color, and look. Among the available lighting options, the white chandelier is considered as the classic type. It can go well with any kind of setup. Crystal ones, on the other hand, are elegant options that you can use to make a room look regal and luxurious. Meanwhile, chandeliers with colored light bulbs provide a festive appearance. You might also want to go for slim-designed chandeliers for a minimalist look. Consider all of these options to help you spot the type of chandelier that will suit your taste and home requirement.

Consider lighting and energy options. There are traditional chandeliers lighted by candles and there are also ones that use electricity. Whatever you choose, make sure that it would be the perfect complement to your lifestyle. For electricity-powered chandeliers, better opt for ones that use LED light bulbs because they are more energy efficient.

Hopefully, this article will help you find the chandelier that will utterly match the overall look and general ambiance of your home.

Outdoor string lights are now widely used in many residential and commercial settings. The use of string lights has already come a long way since they were first introduced. Before, they were only used as festive lighting, but today, these lights now have plenty of functional uses. They can be utilized as appealing garden accents, home decorative elements, or typical lighting decoration.

Most string lights are encased in a resilient plastic covering with electrical wirings. They come with a series of bulbs that are available in all sorts of shapes, forms, and sizes. The bulbs used in string lights may come with one neutral color but there are also models that feature assorted colored bulbs.

If you are looking to purchase string lights for your outdoor area, here are some tips that you should keep in mind.

First and foremost, it is vital that you figure out what particular type of string lights to settle for. You should know that string lights are sold in an array of types and models. Each type varies greatly in size, design, style, and features. For instance, if you intend to illuminate your patio, then the patio string lights is the best option for you. Meanwhile, if you are looking for a more cost efficient option, then the solar string lights are the ideal choice. On the other hand, those who want extremely bright outdoor lighting must check out the string lights that use LED bulbs. They are more energy efficient as compared to models that utilize incandescent bulbs. And most importantly, they offer brighter lights.

Apart from the type, you also have to consider how much illumination you really need. Do you plan to only illuminate a certain portion of your garden or you wish to brighten up the entire area. You have to determine your lighting needs before you start shopping for one to ascertain that you will be able to effectively light up your outdoor area.

Finally, you have to take note of your budget. Shop around and check out different brands as well as models of string lights to aid you in finding one that will seamlessly match your lighting requirements without breaking the bank. Though outdoor string lights are relatively cheap to purchase, they still come with varying prices. Therefore, you should choose one that falls within your desired price range.

I don’t know about you, but somehow lighting fixtures and bulbs are something I always forget about when I go shopping. You know how it is, it’s those things that you don’t really thing about that seem to slip your mind, even though they might be something important. Since the dead lightbulbs are something I only notice when I look up, I don’t remember to get replacements. And the fact that we really need a good outdoor lighting fixture on the patio in the back is something that just doesn’t enter my mind when I’m at the mall.

That’s why it’s great to be able to order these things online. One of my favorite stores to shop in online is the Lighting Universe. It’s a really great option because they seriously have everything related to lighting that you could possibly want to buy. Hence the name, I suppose.

For example, my husband has really gotten into LED GU10 bulbs recently. Saving the environment and lowering our monthly expenses have always been two of his top priorities, and he always gets excited when the two of them can go hand in hand. So he’s been bugging me to go pick some up.

At the same time, there’s that fixture for the patio that I mentioned before that really needs to be gotten. And if I would actually go to a store, I know that once I found something that I liked I would be uncertain if the size that it came in was what we needed, and I would just end up going home without buying anything at all. So I find it to be really useful to be able to run out back with a tape measure while I’m in the middle of ordering and confirm on the size.

And the best thing about shopping online at the Lighting Universe is that they have everything. Bulbs of every shape, type, and wattage, and light fixtures for every part of your home, inside or out.

Solar power patio lights are the in thing now because of their convenience and cheap price. Although solar powered lamps have been available for a long time, they were not too popular because they were large and ungainly due to the size of their batteries, or they did not last for too long. Now with advancements in LED technology, it is possible to have a small solar powered lamp that will burn for 6 to 8 hours.

Solar patio lights are probably the way to go unless you live in an area where the sunlight is very low, or there is some other reason why solar power will not work. These lamps have a small panel of solar cells on top of each individual unit which is connected to a battery. The solar cells charge the battery during the day so that they will be powered up for the night. Some of these lights will have to be switched on manually, while others give the option of coming on automatically when the amount of sunlight goes below a preset threshold.

There are also various different designs that solar patio lights come in, with the more elaborately designed ones having their panel of solar cells off to one side for the sake of aesthetics. They come in sets or as stand alone units that can be purchased separately, and come in traditional lantern shaped lights or more new age funky looking ones. You even get a solar powered garden rope which can be twisted into any shape and made to glow very much like neon lights. These are especially good to set up the boundaries of your patio with.

Checking online is a good option because you will find products on sale that you will not find in your local store. These online stores also offer free shipping with some of them offering up to 25% off on their store bought prices. Buying from a reputed site will negate any chances of you being shortchanged in the deal and considering that most of the lights start off at around the $20 to $25 mark you can get much more than if you went to buy at your local store. Just beware of sites that link you directly to suppliers in other parts of the world since shipping might be a problem.

If you’re in the market for some deck light fixtures to use at home, there are several things that you need to be aware of before you make your purchase. Regardless of the type of light that you plan on installing you should always know how it will affect your electrical bill, the warranty on the light, and the reputation of the manufacturer. Here’s why.

The first thing that you need to look at before you invest in a set of deck light fixtures is how the lights are going to affect your existing electrical bill. If you’re thinking about installing solar lights, this won’t be an issue because they draw all of their energy from the sun. But even if you’re installing low voltage lights they will still cost you a little bit each month in higher electrical bills. Always try to buy lights with timers or motion sensors to decrease the amount of time that they’re lit and save you some money.

The next thing that you need to look at is the warranty that you get when you buy the light. Most lights from quality manufacturers should come with at least a six month warranty. This will protect you against the possibility that you buy a light that is a lemon, meaning that it doesn’t work right out of the box. This is an especially big problem with solar lights because they have a much more delicate construction that can be damaged in shipping.

Finally, you should always know about the manufacturer’s reputation before you buy any lights. Some companies will be known for long lasting lights, and even though these lights may cost a few more dollars now, you’ll reap the benefits down the road when they don’t need replaced nearly as quickly as other, cheaper lights.

With all the choices that you have for deck lighting, it can be hard to pick out the few lights that are righ for you and your property. But hopefully by following these three simple steps, but process gets much easier.

Gardens might not seem like the type of place where you would put lights, but a well lit garden can be a beautiful place to be. Witnessing a lighted garden after the sun goes down is an invigorating experience. Each plant and structure can be accented and brought to life with just a few simple light fixtures. The problem with using just any old light is that most fixtures are not designed to be used in gardens. Their exteriors are quite industrial looking and do not blend in well. To achieve better consistency, you can use one of many garden themed outside lights.

Themed lights do not belong to any one category, but are spread out across many types of lights. For those who enjoy a whimsical and colorful look, you can opt for lights modeled after animals, bugs, plants or interesting shapes. Animal lights are fun because most are modeled to represent the animals in a friendly and welcoming way. Animal lights are made with friendly smiles and bright colors which can make a garden quite inviting. Users can select their favorite animals ranging from dogs and cats to more exotic animals like parrots and reptiles.

Bugs are also popular, specifically ones like butterflies and bumblebees. Of course, no garden would be complete without plant themed lights in the likeness of lilies, sunflowers and trees, among others. Gardeners who enjoy a modern style can select from lights modeled in a geometric shape like a square or sphere. Many of these models can change colors automatically. Glass spheres are popular because the glass has a rippled design which changes the direction of the light. Opt for a solar model if you want the most freedom of placement. Solar models do not suck energy from your home and can be placed anywhere that the sun hits.

Solar lights are the current trend for nocturnal lighting of the great outdoors. While standard electricity for your home’s interior will be around for quite some time, you can set a precedent for your neighbors to start thinking “green”. One way is to bring some life, and light, to your garden, backyard, observatory, entrance or walkways using eco-friendly solar lights.

Spruce-up the night with some solar light!

The key to great solar yard lights is the photovoltaic solar panel that rests up-top of them. They soak in the radiant heat rays of the sun, and convert some of that into usable energy. They use what is known as a ni-cad (or NiMH) battery, which recharges itself with adequate sunlight for up to a couple of years.

The places that these lights can go are virtually unlimited. Contrary to traditional lights, which need a power outlet or alkaline battery, solar lights can be “planted” just about anywhere outdoors, and even indoors—believe it or not.

A few of the possibilities include:

ü The type that is driven directly into the ground (spiked). These are immensely popular in illuminating walkways, dimly-lit paths, gardens, patios, driveway enclosures, dark entryways, and so-forth. As far as colors, you aren’t limited to the standard white—choose from a myriad of colored solar LED’s. These color variations work especially well in-between garden plants and/or paths at night.

ü There are those that come with hooks or clamps—they readily fasten to poles or hang from tree branches. Some even simulate the flickering action of candles.

ü The type that you mount on exterior walls will come with the requisite kits to install them, and are relatively easy to set-up.

ü When Christmas rolls around, just imagine the possibilities! Various solar lights—all with different colors, and the best part—there is no cords to fumble with or high electric bills to contend with.

Be aware that you need to position your solar lights to receive the most sunlight during the day. A 12-hour charging cycle will usually be good for around 7-8 hours at night—largely depending on the amount of light they are capable of shining, though.
