If you are looking to upgrade your ceiling lights, be sure to check out the ones in a chrome finish.  Their finish is extremely versatile, modern, and  surprisingly affordable.  Chrome ceiling lighting is becoming the “new stainless steel” because of similar styling, but it only costs a fraction of what stainless does.  In this post I want to break down for you why this is and how to incorporate them into your home.

Chrome is a chameleon finish when on light fixtures.  Unlike a car’s bumper or grill, when used in the home it tends to blend in and compliment all of the other colors that are found in the room.  The light fixture will usually reflect the other colors and tones that you use, rather than standing out.  This creates an effect that is difficult to replicate with any other finish of lights.  Also, the lights that are inside of the fixture will reflect off of the fixture and create more light than other finishes do, which absorb light.

In order to use a chrome ceiling light in your home, there are a couple of things that have to happen.  Many people think that there has to be a lot of chrome in the room for this style of light fixture to work, but that certainly isn’t the case.  What you need is a common set of colors that run throughout the room.  It doesn’t really matter what they color set is, as long as it is consistent.  This will help the light fixture work as a chameleon and reflect back a consistent color.

Another thing that has to happen in the room is a consistent set of shapes and lines.  Almost every room has this, but it is important so that you can pick a light fixture that matches.  If you have furniture and tables with sharp edges and long lines, a light fixture that is round and bubbly is going to look terrible.  Instead, pick a light fixture that has similar lines and angles as the rest of the furniture!

Using chrome lights in the ceiling is a very easy way to get elegant and clean style.  They pair with almost everything, so any home can use them.  It’s just a matter of planning the few things that we discussed in the post to find the perfect one!
