Tiffany lamps are lamps originally created by American artist Louis Comfort Tiffany who was the son of the founder of the famous jewelry store Tiffany & Co.. He was a lover of beauty and he decided to bring the beauty of stained glass into American homes by making stained glass lamps. He developed an new method of creating stained glass which became known as the copper-foil technique. His modus operandi was to put colors and hues in glass that hadn’t been seen before. Thus Tiffany produced unique, one-off stained-glass lamp shades with elaborate bronze bases. Whilst there is a wide range of variety in lamps and shades, the history of the Tiffany lamps gives it quite a uniqueness. There are a variety of different types of Tiffany lamp shades.

The continued popularity of Tiffany lamps has allowed these classic pieces to retain most of their value through the years. While an original piece in good condition can be a real investment, there are a lot of options available to designers who are working on a tight budget. For those who are hoping to get the Tiffany look, but who lack a few hundred dollars to spend, low cost lamps in the Tiffany style and antique models that require a bit of work are great options.

The first place to look for a true Tiffany lamp is one of the many online auction sites, or those that offer goods that are for sale by owner. Some Tiffany enthusiasts have found prices online that are much lower than one would expect to see in a local antique shop, even on lamps that are fully functional and show no signs of wear. However, those who may be willing to replace some of the lamp’s wiring, or any glass panels that have become cracked over the years are often able to find the best deals. Before ordering such a model, take the time to find a repair shop in your area that can restore the lamp to new condition.
